State MotoX titles at Kimba

16/07/2008 4:09:00 PM
Kimba Motorcycle Club won the rights to host Round three of the 2008 South Australian State Moto X Titles over the weekend.

210 Riders and their families travelled from Bendigo, Canberra, Roxby Downs, North West Victoria, Riverland, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier, Adelaide, Ceduna, Pt Lincoln etc.

The State MotoX titles was a huge event for the Kimba community. Accommodation within the town was booked to capacity and several local families took in boarders to assist with accommodation. The committee and its members spent many days at the track preparing for the weekend of riding.

One of the biggest jobs they undertook was to alter the first corner at the track to make it safer for riders. The 101 Junior riders took part in Saturday’s program.

With gale force winds and cold temperatures the weather was unfavourable for both riders and spectators, but that didn’t stop the young riders from giving it their all. The local young riders all rode very well and did the club and their families proud. The most successful of these local riders were Dale Woolford, Cassidy Williams and Marcus Thompson.

More than 90 senior riders took to the track as part of Sunday’s riding program. Top riders from SA and interstate, gave the spectators some hard and fast action to watch.

The talent was evident with high jumps, fast corner taking and some great racing for a place finish. Local riders Ian Quinn (Cleve) and Daniel Banks (Kimba) provided local spectators with an interest at the event and they resulted in good wins for both riders.

The two day event was supported by the Kimba Ambulance service as well as an Intensive care Paramedic from Whyalla and Ceduna. This service was required on a few occasions but without any major interruptions to the days racing event.

Kimba Motorcycle Club president Peter Thompson congratulated his committee and club members for the fantastic job and many hours of volunteer service they had provided to make this event possible and the great success that it had been.

Thompson thanked sponsors for their support of the event.

He commented that it was an honour for the small town of Kimba to host such a big event on the state riding calendar and that it was supported well by the locals had been a great for the community as a whole.

Many of the riders receiving trophies and prize money commented on the great facilities and catering provided by the Kimba club and spoke praise for the condition of the good riding track at Kimba and that they will be back to compete here again.
