What began seven years ago as a way of turning a life long hobby involved with South Australian country football history into something practical has resulted in the release of the 'Encyclopedia of South Australian Country Football History'.
Cowell football identity and Eastern Eyre umpire, Peter Lines has turned his love of country football into a 300 plus page historical epic which features the histories of every South Australian country football club that has ever been formed from 1865 to the present day.
Each club mentioned hi the 'Encyclopedia of South Australian Country Football History1 contains a brief history of the club and where known their colours and home ground location along with the score of every grand final in which that club played.
Some of the early research for the book occurred in the newspaper archives of the Eyre Peninsula Tribune in Cleve and then expanded to public libraries and newspaper archives statewide. Several of the states foremost football historians have made contributions to the book including eminent West Coast football historian John Gascoyne.
The Encyclopedia also includes more than 100 team photographs, including those of Cowell and several clubs involved hi the former Franklin Harbour Football Association.
The book is available by mail order only at this stage. For more information, contact Mr Lines by phoning 0438 819 391 or email bplines@bigpond.com
